I never did stop loving this game, you know. I just could never get anyone to even glance at it besides my wife, who tried it for about three days and quit. Not her fault, of course. Just not her cup of tea. The Age of Sail holds a certain romance to me, something I cannot get in any other game I've played thus far. I've often thought of it, that being my retirement: Buy a boat and just sail around.
Actually, Jessica pointed out something key. My brother Christopher played this game too. He must have liked it; he went and joined the Navy. o.o
Anyway, I'm a pirate again. They made some changes to the game I just had to see for myself.

Well, dear, it's as I said: I don't want to play a highly-fictionalized version of history. It baffles me how the fans whine about even the slightest breach of historical accuracy, even if there literally hundreds of Barbie dolls running around with a bevy of Sparrow-ish Kens bombing low-level players for kicks. How does that adhere to recorded history, again?
It isn't a bad game. The mechanics are solid and the score is pretty nice. I'm not fond of the toons, but the boats are beautiful and so is the water.
It's a game designed for a very specific niche. I'm surprised it's lasted this long, to be honest. But, there are many hardcore, realist-cravers out there, so perhaps it isn't so much of a surprise. :)
